A summary report of the MERI rountable discussions on decentralization and empowerment of local government in the KRI. Present were diplomats, parliamentarian, KRG officials and academic experts.

MERI is among the top 7% think tanks in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) countries.  It went up by 22 places to No. 35 among 507 institutions.

The Iraqi leaders need to give top priority to state-building, institutionalisation, good governance and rule of law, all of which are currently at their weakest.

The 2018 annual MERI Forum (23-24 October, 2018) brought together policy- and decision-makers, academics and opinion-leaders to share visions and solutions for a range of core issues and challenges that are facing the Middle East today.

Following fruitful discussions and dialogues, the conference concluded with refined recommendations for developing the rule of law and institutionalisation process in the Kurdistan Region.

These training sessions are designed to improve journalists’ capacity and skills to represent democratic values and standards, highlight the fundamentals of contemporary and investigative journalism.

Though both Turkey and the EU have different priorities in Iraq, they both staunchly converged in opposing the referendum.
