‘If we get the economy right, we will have a more harmonious political system,’ stated Qubad Talabani, Deputy Prime Minister of Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) in his visit to the Middle East Research Institute to discuss the Kurdistan Region’s economy on Wednesday, November 25th.
Mr. Talabani discussed the economic challenges facing the Kurdistan Region that make it difficult for The Government to pay civil servant salaries and prevent it from diversifying revenue sources away from sole reliance on oil. Because oil revenues are not enough to fund the public sector, The KRG needs to balance its budget to use any future surpluses to invest in non-oil sectors.
