The Middle East Research Institute (MERI) is pleased to host a roundtable on Wednesday January 13, 2016 to discuss the economic crisis in the Kurdistan Region and necessary reforms to build a more resilient economic system. The event marks the beginning of a series of events that will take place in the lead up to the MERI Economic Forum to be held in April 2016.
KRG officials, economists, financial experts, policymakers, and members of the local and international development and business organisations will discuss areas of reform and challenges and opportunities ahead in this regard.
In the meeting, MERI’s team will present their latest research report, In Best of Times and Worst of Times: Addressing the Structural Weaknesses of the Kurdistan Region’s Economy, which highlights both the economic symptoms of Kurdistan’s overall crisis and underlying structural weaknesses in the economic system and proposes recommendations for overcoming both. The presentation will be followed by intensive discussion and exchange of views on economic recovery and reforms in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.
The meeting aims to generate high-quality debate with contributions from relevant stakeholders for the Kurdistan Regional Government to come up with a comprehensive economic reform strategy.
Attendance by invitation only.
