Goran Zangana

Goran was a Non-Resident Associate Fellow at the Middle East Research Institute between 2016-2019.  He is a graduate of medicine from Hawler Medical University, Erbil, Kurdistan Region of Iraq.  Goran was awarded a Fulbright scholarship to pursue a master degree in health policy at Emory University's Rollins School of Public Health in USA. During his time in America he was awarded several awards including Emory University's Trailblazer Award and Eugene Gangrosa Award for Best Service in the International Health Arena. He also worked as an intern at the Carter Center's Health Program. Upon returning to Kurdistan, he worked as a program manager for Heartland Alliance International where he helped conducting the first randomized controlled trial in Iraq on mental health interventions for torture survivors in partnership with Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Goran is finishing his PhD in international public health policy at the University of Edinburgh/UK. His main interests lies in policy making in post-conflict settings, primary health care policy, health financing, policy transfer and evidence-based policy. In addition to his public health and health policy interests, Goran continues to practice medicine. He is a licensed doctors in the USA and UK. He has numerous publications in Kurdish and English in both local and peer-reviewed journals.
