Due to the ongoing security situation, MERI held a briefing on the 24th of June 2014, covering the current crisis in Iraq and its impact on Kurdistan Region. Invited were high-level KRG political and military officials, representatives of the business community, members of the foreign consuls, and a large section of the international press.
A number of key issues were identified and discussed. A detailed description of the current military situation was provided and was followed by a briefing on the KRI internal security situation. The status of Mosul was discussed along with the many political and economic issues that are affecting the KRG.
The event was intended to brief those who already had strong background knowledge of the situation. The issues discussed do not necessarily represent the views of the organisation, they are just issues that were raised during the course of the discussion. The organisation does not vouch for the truth or accuracy of any of the following points.
