Research and Logistics Assistant

MERI is recruiting for: A high caliber candidate who will perform various research and logistical tasks to support and facilitate the work of MERI researchers in their projects. A successful candidate must be able to provide support to and be able to effectively communicate and collaborate with researchers and administration department to ensure effective delivery of tasks and duties.

The Middle East Research Institute would like to announce a new vacant position in the capacity of Research and Logistics Assistant in the Department of Administration. Candidates must display experience in research and logistics.

Core competencies:

  • Knowledge of political dynamics in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq
  • Demonstrable work experience in research and logistics
  • Excellent translation skills from English to Arabic and Kurdish and vice versa
  • Excellent communication and writing skills in English, Kurdish and Arabic
  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to work independently and complete tasks without supervision
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work, communicate and collaborate effectively with a wide range of people
  • Willingness to learn, use initiatives, work flexibly and keep focus in an unfamiliar environment

 

Responsibilities:

The research and logistics assistant will:

  •  Report to, and operate under the logistics manager and the president of the institute
  • Assist with the design and delivery of high-level workshops and track debates
  • Assist research fellows in carrying out research, e.g. arranging interviews, translating etc., in different areas as required for research
  • Contribute to the written output material, such as briefing papers, reports, blogs, and external submission
  • Build and maintain network of local contacts as and where relevant for MERI, including potential collaborative partners, media outlets, donors, political leaders, and other stakeholders
  • Produce high-level translation of MERI’s policy reports, papers and briefs in Kurdish and Arabic
