Henriette Johansen

Henriette Johansen is Research Fellow at the Middle East Research Institute. She is an anthropologist by training and her work focuses on Syria, Lebanon, Jordan and Iraq, in particular on the topic of migration. Henriette has worked as a researcher and journalist based in Lebanon (2012-15) and Greece (2016), covering the refugee management crisis. Alongside managing camp welfare projects and assisting vulnerable refugees, she created several advocacy projects concerning the EU border policies and partnerships to tackle migration. In addition, she set up an organisation to support unaccompanied asylum-seeking youth in London and is co-directing a documentary film on women in migration.

Henriette has a BA in Anthropology from University of Sussex, an MA in Near and Middle East studies from School of Oriental and African Studies and studies Arabic at the Institut français du Proche-Orient and Saifi Institute in Beirut.
